Hi everyone!
I love food, eating and cooking. Unfortunately for these hobbies, I live in Juba, the capital city of the world's youngest country South Sudan, where I work for the World Food Programme, and where the store and restaurant options are very limited. And by limited I mean that there are two places where I can buy imported foods at very high prices. There are a couple of decent restaurants but with a curfew of 7pm and a lot of insecurity on the streets, outings to these places are few and far between.
I tend to travel outside of South Sudan every 6-8 weeks to places like Rome, Nairobi, Chicago and Montreal. Here I stock up on whatever food I can, but there is only so much you can fit into one suitcase.
If you want to live in South Sudan and continue enjoying food, eating and cooking, then creativity and substitution are key. This is my take on some of the recipes I find on my favourite food blog sites, proving that no matter where you live, you can enjoy a good meal!
